The Ella Ladder Back Upholstered in Grapes by Duncan Grant
The perfectly proportioned Ella chair is designed exclusively for Cheeky Chairs by Dave Green of Sitting Firm, as part of our Modern Windsor Capsule Collection. The chair is beautifully handmade in solid English ash with a natural oiled finish.
The design was inspired by an 18th Century Lancashire ladder back chair but has a contemporary 'Scandi' twist in the clean lines and subtle curve to the slatted back.
The seat is traditionally upholstered using natural materials for both craftsmanship and supreme comfort. The seat is lovingly wrapped in the iconic Grapes fabric in yellow, created by Duncan Grant of Bloomsbury fame. Grant designed this printed linen for Allan Walton textiles in 1932 whilst living at Charleston Farmhouse in East Sussex with fellow artist Vanessa Bell. The fabric was used for the upholstery and drapery of a music room designed by Grant and Vanessa Bell and can be seen in Charleston house in the Library.
